You describe the situation in your own words. You will leave knowing the realistic routes available, roughly what each would cost, and what happens next. There is no obligation attached to it.
How are fees structured?
It depends on the matter. Some work suits a fixed fee, some is hourly, and you are told which applies and why before anything begins. A written scope and fee structure goes out for your approval first.
Do I actually need a lawyer for this?
Sometimes not, and you will be told so. Small matters, straightforward filings and situations already resolving on their own are not always worth the cost of representation.
How long will my matter take?
It varies more than anyone would like. Uncontested matters can move quickly. Contested ones run on the court’s schedule rather than anyone else’s. You will be given a realistic range rather than an optimistic one.
Will I be working with you or with staff?
With Dale, throughout. The firm is small by design.
Is my first conversation confidential?
Communications with a lawyer about seeking legal advice are generally protected. However, contacting the firm does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship, so avoid sending sensitive material until an engagement is in place.
